Eligibility Criteria
Age – The age range for flying is different than the age range for Technical ground duty.
- Flying – The age range for flying branch is 20-24 years.
- Technical – The age of candidate must fall between 20-26 years for this post
- Ground duty – The candidates must have his age in between 20-26 years for this post.
Flying Branch –
As a Graduate/ Engineer, you enter the Flying branch through the Air Force Academy.The following are the three modes of entry for Graduates/ Engineers to join the Flying branch:
CDSE (COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES EXAMINATION) (FOR MEN ONLY)
- Men can enter through this mode of entry and will get a Permanent Commission.

NCC SPECIAL ENTRY (FOR MEN ONLY)
(Through NCC Air Squadrons / DG NCC)
- As an Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ Certificate holder of the National Cadet Corps, you can apply to the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. Men can join the Air Force through this mode of entry and will be given a Permanent Commission.

SSC (SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION ) ENTRY( FOR MEN AND WOMEN)
- You can apply through AFCAT for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying Branch.
- Short Service Commission in Flying branch is for 14 years with no further extension.

UNIVERSITY ENTRY SCHEME(UES)
For candidates studying in Pre-Final year of B-tech/BE degree course
For men only. Grant of Permanent Commission.
Educational Qualifications: The candidate must be currently studying in Pre-final year of BE / BTech degree course with choice of subject as mentioned above. There must be No backlog / arrears of papers of previous semesters at the time of SSB Testing. On completion of degree, minimum 60% of marks in aggregate in all papers put together are mandatory.
AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING COURSE
After completion of Engineering degree or while in your final year/semester of Engineering
For both Men and Women. Permanent Commission (for men) / Short Service Commission (For men and women)
Marks – Must have scored a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in any one of the listed disciplines.
Final year students are eligible to apply provided they do not have any present backlog at the time of SSB testing and they produce provisional/ original degree issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.

Physical Standards:
1. | Height and Weight: | Minimum height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight, Leg Length : Min – 99 cms. Max – 120 cms. Thigh Length: Max – 64 cms. Sitting Height : Min – 81.5 cms. Max – 96 cms. |
2. | Vision: | Minimum Visual Acuity 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia. |
LASIK Surgery for correction of vision is admissible in Transport and Helicopter streams of Short Service Commission (Flying Branch) if the following conditions are fulfilled at the time of Air Force medical examination:-
(a) LASIK Surgery should not have been carried out before the age of 20 years. (b) The axial length of the eye should not be more than 25.5 mm as measured by IOL master. (c) At least twelve months should have lapsed post uncomplicated stable LASIK. No history or evidence of any complication. (d) The post LASIK corneal thickness as measured by a corneal pachymeter should not be less than 450 microns. (e) Individuals with high refractive errors (>6D) prior to LASIK are to be excluded. Candidates must not suffer from colour or night blindness. All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final. |
AFCAT 2018 Exam Pattern:
The AFCAT will have of 100 multiple choice questions and each question will carry three marks. So Question paper will be 300. The negative marking is applicable; there is one-third negative marking in AFCAT 2017 exam. For every wrong answer, 1 mark will be subtract as penalty.
The AFCAT 2018 paper will consist of four sections:

Selection Procedure

There are various stages of selection procedure.
Stage 1 will be an intelligence test. It is a kind of screening test after clearing which candidates will be able to go for further stages.
The second stage will include Psychological, Group Tests and Interview which will be organized over five subsequent days.
For Flying Branch: Candidates will have to undergone through a test conducted by Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS). It will be conducted once in lifetime.

Then a User ID and password will be sent to your email which you provide them earlier while filling your form. 5. Use that User ID and password to login by using the ‘Login for Online Application’ link. 6. Correctly fill all your details on application form. 7. Upload recent color passport size scanned photograph, signature and a thumb impression. 8. When uploaded photograph submit your form. After that take a hard-copy (printout) of the application form for further reference. 9. Candidates will receive Registration ID in their email, when he/she successful completion their application submission. |
