पूर्व उच्च प्राथमिक शिष्यवृत्ती परीक्षा इयत्ता 5 वा (PUP) ही माध्यमिक शालेय शिक्षणात शैक्षणिक कौशल्य असणाया विद्यार्थ्यांची ओळख पटविण्यासाठी व पात्र विद्यार्थ्यांना प्रोत्साहित करण्यासाठी आणि त्यांना आर्थिक पाठबळ देण्यासाठी महाराष्ट्र राज्य शैक्षणिक परिषदेने (एमएससीई) आयोजित केलेली राज्यस्तरीय शिष्यवृत्ती परीक्षा आहे. विश्वासार्ह, पारदर्शक आणि वैध परीक्षांच्या माध्यमातून प्राथमिक, माध्यमिक व व्यावसायिक पातळीवर प्रतिभा शोधणे हे एमएससीईचे ध्येय आहे.
शिष्यवृत्ती परीक्षांचा इतिहास काय आहे?

पूर्व उच्च प्राथमिक शिष्यवृत्ती परीक्षा (PUP)
या परीक्षा सन १९५४ पासून घेण्यात येत आहेत. महाराष्ट्रातील प्राथमिक किंवा उच्च प्राथमिक शाळांमध्ये इयत्ता पांचवी च्या विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी या परीक्षा घेतल्या जातात. यापूर्वी प्रत्येक शाळेतील काही निवडक विद्यार्थी या परीक्षांना उपस्थित राहू शकले होते परंतु सन २००८ पासून शासकीय मान्यताप्राप्त शाळेतील कोणताही विद्यार्थी परीक्षेस बसण्यास पात्र आहे. आता इयत्ता पांचवी शिकत असलेले विद्यार्थी परीक्षेस पात्र आहेत. यापूर्वी ही परीक्षा इयत्ता चॊथीचा विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी “मिडल स्कूल शिष्यवृत्ती परीक्षा” या नावाने घेतली जात होती. नंतर त्याचे नाव “पूर्व उच्च प्राथमिक शिष्यवृत्ती परीक्षा” असे ठेवले गेले आणि इयत्ता पांचवीचा विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी घेण्यात येत आहे. दरवर्षी फेब्रुवारी किंवा मार्च महिन्यात ही परीक्षा घेण्यात येते आणि या परीक्षेला ७ लाख पेक्षा जास्त विद्यार्थी उपस्थित असतात. ही परीक्षा मराठी, इंग्रजी, हिंदी, उर्दू, गुजराती, कन्नड, तेलगु, सिंधी माध्यमांमध्ये घेतली जाते.

(PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS MIDDLE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP EXAM)
After several experts worked on a new format for the state scholarship exam, the revised syllabus and pattern has finally received approval from the state government. Teacher training programmes would begin across the state on the new pattern soon. Confirming the approval, RV Godhane, commissioner, Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE) said one of the major changes would be instead of a three-paper exam, it would be a two-paper one.
Every year, more than 15 lakh students appear for the Middle School Scholarship (MSS) and High School Scholarship (HSS) exams in the state which till now were held for classes IV and VII students. However, from the next academic year, it would be held for classes V and VIII to suit the requirements of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
An 11-member committee headed by Gangadhar Mhamane, director, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), was constituted to restructure the new syllabus keeping increase in eligibility criteria as a key factor.
Till now, there used to be three papers for the exams of 100 marks each which included the first and second language in the first paper, Maths in the second paper and History in the third paper. But in the proposed pattern, there would be two exams of 75 marks each. MSCE sources said the first paper would have first language and Maths while the second paper would have other subjects.
Pre Upper Primary Scholarship Examination Std. 5th (PUP), which was previously known as Middle School Scholarship Examination, is a state level scholarship exam conducted by Maharashtra State Council of Education (MSCE) in India to identify students having academic talent at Primary and Upper Primary schooling and to encourage deserving students and provide them with financial support. These exams are conducted since the year 1954. For students of Primary or Upper Primary Schools in Maharashtra these exams were earlier held for students pursuing 4th Standard / Class. Earlier only few selected students from each school were able to appear for these tests but from the year 2008 any student from a Government recognized school is eligible to appear for the exam. Now students pursuing 8th Standard / Class ae eligible for the exam. The exams are conducted every year in the month of February or March and over 7 lakh (0.7 million) students appear for this exam. Eligibility Criteria
1. Domicile: The student should be a resident of Maharashtra i.e. the parent should have resided in Maharashtra for at least 15 years.
2. School: Student should be studying in government approved / subsidised / unsubsidised / permanent unsubsidised / self-funded school etc. in Std. 5th. Students of State Board, CBSE, ICSE are eligible to appear for the scholarship exam. However, students of CBSE & ICSE won’t be eligible for scholarship. But the successful students of CBSE & ICSE boards will be issued Certificates.
3. Age: The age of the candidates should not be more than 11 years (15 years for PH candidates). Age of student as on 1st June 2020 must not be more than 11 years [However, students
above the age limit will be allowed to appear for the exam, but won’t be eligible for scholarship]
Application Form 2025
- Exam application forms are to be submitted online by the respective schools.
- Forms submitted offline shall not be accepted.
- Forms submitted by individual student, either online or offline shall not be accepted.
The application form for Maharashtra PUP/ PSS Scholarship Examination 2025 will be made available through online mode. Candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria can obtain the application form from the official website www.puppss.mscescholarshipexam.in.
- To fill the application form, the candidates will be required to provide their personal and academic details.
- Choice for question paper language and for exam center should also be provided into the application form.
- After providing all the details into the application form, the candidates can submit it along with the prescribed application fee.
- Care should be taken to provide all the details correctly as incorrect applications are liable for rejection.
- The application form should be submitted on or before the prescribed last date as for late applications late fee will be charged from the candidates.
- Candidates are advised to take a hard copy of the filled application form in case of future reference.

Scholarship Amount:
After the announcement of result, students selected for the award of the scholarship will receive scholarship amount. Selected students are paid Rs.100 to 500 per month.

2. Mode of Exam:
- MCQ (Objective type) questions in paper-pen (offline) mode with OMR answer sheet.
3. There shall be four options, out of which only one will be correct.
4. For PSS in both papers for about 20% questions, two out of the four options will be correct.
- Students are required to marked those both correct options as their answer.
5. There shall not be negative marking for incorrect answer.
6. For students of Semi-English medium, the questions for Mathematics in Paper-I and for Intelligence Test in Paper-II shall be in both language i.e. in original medium and English. Hence, students are advised to select appropriate medium while submitting the online application form.

Admit Card
- The admit card for appearing in the Maharashtra PUP/ PSS Scholarship Examination 2021 will be published on the official website www.puppss.mscescholarshipexam.in.
- Candidates should take a printout of the admit card and carry it with them while reporting to the exam center.
- Only the candidates holding a valid admit card will be allowed to enter the exam hall and give the exam.
- The candidates should keep their admit card safe from damage or distortion as such admit cards will not be considered as valid.
- Details of the exam center, date and timing will be mentioned on the admit card of the students.

- Candidates can check the answer key of their exam and if they find any discrepancy, they can raise objection against the same.

Result
- Result of the scholarship exam will be declared by the authorities through online mode and can be check from official website.
